Acorn Christmas Ornament

The ornament below in the photo is called “acorn christmas ornament”. The ornament above is called “pinecone christmas ornament” and its pattern is presented later in this post.

The acorn christmas ornament is done in two parts: first the bottom part and then the top part. For the bottom part I used Filati Fantasia yarn in color “Kupari” (copper) and for the top part I used the same yarn in color “Laava” (lava).

Bottom part of the crochet bauble

Step 1. Do a magic loop and insert 8 single crochet (sc) stitches into the loop. Pull the tail end of the yarn and close the round with a slip stitch (sl st). Note: leave a 30 cm long tail for the hanging loop.

Step 2. Insert 2 single crochet (sc) stitches to each stitch in the round.

Step 3. *Insert 2 sc stitches to the first stitch and then 1 sc to the second stitch.* Repeat * until you reach the first stitch.

Step 4. *Insert 2 sc stitches to the first stitch and then 1 sc to the second stitch and 1 sc to the third stitch.* Repeat * until you reach the first stitch.

Step 5. Insert 1 sc to every stitch. Do this round 3 more times. Insert a sl st, leave a 30 cm tail, cut the yarn and pull the yarn through one more time.

Top part of the crochet bauble

Change the color to Laava (lava) and start doing puff stitches straight to the bottom part.

Step 1. Insert the first puff stitch: chain 3, *yarn over, insert a hook into a stitch, pull yarn through* and repeat * 4 more times. You now have 11 loops on the hook. Pull yarn through 10 of them, yarn over, pull yarn through the last two loops and close the puff with a chain.

Step 2. Chain 1. *Insert the second puff stitch into the third (not the second) sc: yarn over, insert a hook into a stitch, pull yarn through and repeat 5 more times. You now have 13 loops on the hook. Pull yarn through 12 of them, yarn over, pull yarn through the last two loops and close the puff with a chain. Chain 1.* Repeat * 14 more times and then join in the round with a sl st to the top stitch of the first puff. Insert another sl st to the chain between the first and the second puff.

Step 3. Place the ornament inside so that a cap is on top. Do the second row by repeating steps 1 and 2.

Step 4. Insert one puff as in the step 1 into the chain between the first and the second puff. Do NOT chain 1. Now, insert a puff into every second chain instead of every chain. Also, do not chain 1 in between. Join in the round with a sl st to the top stitch of the first puff.

Step 5. Pull the tail end out next to the cap. Crochet the final rounds by inserting sc stitches around the cap (total of 5 rounds) and then finalize the top by inserting sl stitches to the sc stitches. Leave a 20 cm tail and cut the yarn. Now, using both tails, pull them through the cap and make a hanging loop for the ornament.

Pinecone Christmas Ornament

The ornaments above in the photo are “pinecone christmas ornaments” and ornaments below in the photo are simply “crochet ornaments”. The pattern for “crochet ornaments” is presented below in this post.

Step 1. Do a magic loop and insert 8 single crochet (sc) stitches into the loop. Pull the tail end of the yarn and close the round with a slip stitch (sl st). Note: leave a 30 cm long tail for the hanging loop.

Step 2.

Step 3. Chain 1. *Insert the second puff stitch into the next sc: yarn over, insert a hook into a stitch, pull yarn through and repeat 5 more times. You now have 13 loops on the hook. Pull yarn through 12 of them, yarn over, pull yarn through the last two loops and close the puff with a chain. Chain 1.* Repeat * 6 more times and then join in the round with a sl st to the top stitch of the first puff. Insert another sl st to the chain between the first and the second puff.

Step 4. Start the 3rd round by inserting a puff into the chain (not to a stitch) as in the step 2. Then insert another puff into the same chain (without chaining 3 in the beginning).

Step 5. Chain 1. *Insert 2 puff stitches to the same chain. Chain 1.* Repeat * 6 more times and then join in the round with a sl st to the top stitch of the first puff. Insert another sl st to the chain between the first and the second puff.

Step 6. Start the 4th round by inserting one puff as in the step 2 into the chain between the first and the second puff. Chain 1. *Insert a puff to the next chain. Chain 1.* Repeat * 14 more times and join in the round as instructed previously. You now have 16 puffs in the round.

Step 7. Repeat the step 6 two more times. Note: insert a sl st to the chain between the first and the second puff after changing the row. Place the ornament inside so that a cap is on top.

Step 8. Insert one puff as in the step 2 into the chain between the first and the second puff. (Do NOT chain 1.) Insert a puff into the second chain between the second and the third puff. Chain 1. Insert a puff, do NOT chain 1, insert a puff, chain 1. So, you chain 1 only after every second puff. Do this until you reach the first puff and then join in the round with a sl st. Insert another sl st to the chain between the first and the second puff.

Step 9. Insert one puff as in the step 2 into the chain between the first and the second puff. Do NOT chain 1. Now, insert a puff into every second chain instead of every chain. Also, do not chain 1 in between. Join in the round with a sl st to the top stitch of the first puff.

Step 10. Before starting the last round pull the tail end out next to the cap. Crochet the final round by inserting sl stitches around the cap. Make sure to draw through all the yarns between puffs. Insert 1 sc stitch to secure the seam, leave a 20 cm tail and cut the yarn. Now, using both tails, pull them through the cap and make a hanging loop for the ornament.

Crochet Ornament

This pattern is for the simple crochet ornament that is shown in the last photo (below the pinecone christmas ornaments in the photo). Of these patterns, this ornament is the easiest one to make!

Step 5. *Insert 2 sc stitches to the first stitch and then 1 sc to the second stitch, 1 sc to the 3rd stitch and 1 sc to the 4th stitch.* Repeat * until you reach the first stitch.

Step 6. Insert 1 sc to every stitch. Do this round one more time.

Step 7. Insert a sl st, leave a 20 cm tail, cut the yarn and pull the yarn through one more time. Do not weave in the end. You can also leave the magic loop tail unweaved.

Step 8. Crochet another “pad” according to the instructions but do not cut the yarn in the end.

Step 9. Place the pads on top of each. Crochet the pads together with sl stitches: *insert the hook into the first and opposite stitches of the pads, insert a sl st.* Repeat * until you reach cap of the ornament. NOTE: before you reach the cap of the ornament, place the ornament between the pads. Insert 1 sc stitch to secure the seam, leave a 20 cm tail and cut the yarn. Now, using all tails, pull them through next to the cap and make a hanging loop for the ornament.
