How To Make A Granny Square Bag Step By Step?

Crochet A Flower Granny Square

Make 18 flower granny squares: 10 squares with a pink flower (round 2 is crocheted with pink color) and 8 squares with an orange flower.

I have published this flower granny square pattern on another pattern page. Therefore, you can find only quick instructions for the granny square on this page. Click below to find more detailed pattern instructions for the flower granny square!

Quick Flower Granny Square Instructions

  • Round 1: Magic ring, ch 3, 11 dc.
  • Round 2: 12 puff stitches (made with 4 hdc). After pulling yarn through all the stitches of a puff stitch, ch 2. Insert your hook to the space between dc stitches and not through the stitch as you would usually do.
  • Round 3: Make 3-dc-shells between puff stitches except in the corners where you make “3-tr-shell, ch 2, 3-tr-shell”.

Weave in the ends. At this point, you can block the squares so that they get straight edges and a finished look.

Join the Squares Together

Assemble the granny squares as indicated in the granny square bag layout photo below. Join the squares together with a flat slip stitch method (or with your favourite joining stitch). The blue lines indicate the shape of the bag.

Crochet the Granny Square Bag Handles

Attach black yarn to the top corner of one square. Chain 51 and join the chain with a single crochet stitch (sc) to the top corner of the next square. Insert a slip stitch to the next stitch of the top corner and turn the work. Insert half double crochet stitches (hdc) along the chain until you reach the beginning of the chain. Then, insert a sc to the next stitch in the top corner of the granny square. Secure the bag handle by weaving in the ends carefully.

Make sure that the squares are on the same side of the bottom of the bag so that the handles align correctly. Check this from the granny square layout photo above.

Make another bag handle with the same instructions. Cut the yarn and weave in all the ends.
